About Us
Who We Are
The Michigan Journal of Health Law (MJoHL) is a student-operated journal1 at the University of Michigan Law School. MJoHL aims to publish two issues each academic year, with each issue featuring at least one Article and one Student Note. In addition to issue publications, MJoHL is online-first and may publish Essays and Commentary on a rolling basis to support timely engagement with developments in health law.
Mission Statement
MJoHL’s mission is to advance rigorous health law scholarship and to develop student expertise in a field shaped by rapid legal, scientific, and institutional change. Situated within a university known for excellence in medicine and health research, MJoHL seeks to connect legal scholarship with the insights of clinicians, researchers, and policymakers. The Journal seeks to provide a dedicated forum for work examining the legal and regulatory forces influencing healthcare delivery, public health, and biomedical innovation, and to foster engagement across disciplines—including the University of Michigan’s broader health community. MJoHL is committed to careful editing, accurate support for claims, and publishing scholarship that is meaningful both within and beyond the legal academy.
Why MJoHL?
Health law is moving quickly—driven by developments in science, healthcare delivery, public health, and regulation—and the legal questions that follow increasingly demand sustained, specialized attention. MJoHL was founded to create a dedicated forum for this work at Michigan and to give students a structured way to engage deeply with the scholarship shaping the field.
Michigan is uniquely positioned for that project. Within a university with a deep health and research ecosystem, MJoHL aims to connect legal analysis with real-world perspectives from clinicians, researchers, and policymakers—and to help strengthen the Law School’s role as a leading center for health law scholarship.
